Transferring toons to a new server

    Posted: 24 May 2020 05:16 PM PDT

as the title suggests, me and my buddies want to start a new server (larger server map and what not) but we want to retain our toons and skills. Is there anyway that we can do this? Thanks in advance!

    Can't connect to dedicated server

    Posted: 24 May 2020 09:08 PM PDT

I want to start out by saying I've created several dedicated servers before so I'd like to think I know what I'm doing.

However, 7dtd dedicated servers just don't seem to work for me. I can't even use a direct ip connection even though everything should be setup properly. The terminal is showing running, I have 29000tcp and 29000-2udp port forwarding enabled, public is on, but I can't find it in browser and direct connection fails and I get a "could not retrieve server information" error. This is extremely frustrating.

https://pastebin.com/8FfsBdFt is my config.xml file, am I missing something?

On another note, whenever I try stopping the server it times out and I get a "failed, force closing server..." message.

Edit: I think the problem is that the ports are not opening, this is the status for the server

Status: Running Open ports: 8081 (tcp)

and the only open port is 8081 instead of 29000-29002

    New player!

    Posted: 24 May 2020 02:53 PM PDT

Any tips? Playing on console and I keep getting killed and then I start a new world for no reason. I never really get past day 2 without dying. I just can't seem to find food or water, spend most of my time wacking zombies only to get infected. Tips?

    A18 Memory Issues

    Posted: 24 May 2020 03:20 PM PDT

Okay, so this is probably beating a dead horse, but was there every anything determined about some of the weird memory-usage issues people were running into on A18? I went from using 5-8gb of RAM on A17, to it using all 16GB on A18. I've gone so far as to knock all of my settings down to the lowest possible and it still seems to happen (multiplayer or singleplayer doesn't seem to matter much, world size appears to be the biggest contributor). Even on a server hosted by my friend, my game is using 2x to 3x the memory he is.

I know not everyone, or even a large percentage of users, have had this issue, but it basically torpedoed my ability to play the game. I've looked around ever since A18 hit for solutions, but never really found anything (beyond enough people with similar issues to convince me its not just by rig dying). Has anyone stumbled upon a solution?

Honest opinion of this game from playing it for a week? It's mediocre at best

    Posted: 24 May 2020 05:04 PM PDT

I've played this game for a week, coming from games like Fallout, rust, ark. I've played tons of these survival games, so I had to try this one

    Pros:

    • Building is so goddamn fun. In other games like Fallout, the building is just terrible because of clipping issues, can't please this there, can't do this. In this game, not only can you build your base however you want, it can look fucking awesome too. Not only that, it's functional. Your base actually keeps out zombies and you can make traps, pitfalls, Spike fans. Amazing

    • The community is awesome as hell. On every single server I've been on, I have not found anyone who's a jerk, aggressive, rude, mean. In fact, everyone tried to help me get started and provide me with instructions on where to go to find things, give me starter materials. The community seriously awesome. The best thing about this game so far honestly

    • Starting out is really challenging, which is a good thing. It's not just a walk in the park. It's the struggle to get all the materials you need to be able to fight the zombies. Not stupidly casual like just handing you an automatic weapon and 5000 bullets like every other game out there these days.

    • The game has grown immensely and is still growing. this is a terrific thing, as they are constantly pushing out new updates with each alpha. Coming next is HD zombies. Players have so much excitement for new updates.

    Cons:

    • Fog of war / terribad map. The map in the game is honestly just terrible. I've explored maps several times, both on single player and on the online servers, and as soon as I log in or server reset, or three days later, the entire map is obscured again. Super dumb honestly. Why obscure the map at all? It should be totally visible or at least give players an option to enable or disable fog of war. But honestly it's my biggest frustration

    • Server stability. Multiplayer servers have to be purchased and paid for with a third party company, so multiplayer servers are often very unreliable, have spotty connection, people with high paying decide to play on them. people with high ping siding to play on your server has a really harsh effect on it. If someone with a high-paying decides to play on a multiplayer server, it ruins the connection for everyone else. I've been on servers that have low ping as well, Sanders constant lag, stuttering, people crashing, people getting stuck in some dark void. I have yet to find a single multiplayer server that doesn't feel like trash connection wise, and other people know it too.

    • Very badly optimized game engine. this game is sometimes hard to play on my gaming rig equipped with an RTX 2080.

    • The clunky combat. It's just bad. It's even worse on blood moon, and even WORSE on a multiplayer server. People skating, intense lag, unable to shoot anything. It's just bad. But the combat is really the problem. Melee is unusable because it just feels so clunky. You either use bow, machine gun, shotgun, or you die. Those are your choices. in order to get a horde of zombies to your location, you have to generate heat map which involves putting down a bunch of campfires, running forges, something to that effect. When a horde arrives they don't come straight for you. They hobble around aimlessly, some of them turning their attention to you occasionally. This is silly, compared to every other game where enemies lock eyes on you and try to kill you. Hordes just run around and frolick and hang out and occasionally smack you. That's it.

    • No lore / questline at all. Not something I care about, but I hear people gripe about it constantly. People wish that there were some story options to tell you what's happening, or what's going on. we have literally no idea who the fook is, why we care, why we were spared, where the dukes casino is. There's just no story at all

    • Lackluster "quests". Go here and fetch this buried treasure, kill the zombies, do this menial work, here's 10 iron arrows. Great work. Kthxbye. That's the quest system. no quests related to building a certain size base or surviving to a certain day killing a certain number of zombies. Literally the least amount of effort possible put in to quest at the trader

In closing: I still love it and recommend it. Best mediocre game I've ever played.

The amount of gunpowder required in crafting is just silly

    Posted: 24 May 2020 05:51 AM PDT

In real life, bullets and shotgun shells don't even have that much gunpowder. They have just as much gunpowder in them as the buckshot. I mean, at least for shotgun shells. It requires 4 gunpowder. But only 1 buckshot. I think it's just ridiculous that it requires so much gunpowder for one single shell

Removing the version number text in the top right

    Posted: 24 May 2020 11:05 AM PDT

I've been tweaking my HUD to make things as minimal as possible for immersion. F7 isn't a solution as it breaks interactables but importantly also does not remove the version text, so I'm thinking I may have to edit the Assembly .dll. Does anyone happen to know how I may be able to do this?
