| Best video game purchase I've made in a while. Posted: 14 Jul 2020 06:45 PM PDT I (24M) had a terrible fifteen months or so. I lost two relationships, took care of my grandpa while he passed from brain cancer, had to put my childhood dog down, was diagnosed with narcolepsy (chronic and incurable neurological disorder that disrupts sleep/wake cycles), consequently lost my job, money and independence, had to move back in with family. I've dealt with pretty bad depression, remorse, guilt, lack of motivation, identity issues, and lack of general control in my life. That was all even before Covid hit and worsened the isolation because now I'm scared to get it and I live in Florida where it's really bad (and I'm a long drive from society). Honestly, all of the stress and even exhaustion from my condition ruined my appetite for gaming. I tried game after game trying to find something that held my attention. I felt guilty for even enjoying gaming when I don't even know how to get back to working and making money for myself with my condition. It got to the point where I wasn't even playing games anymore, I was just watching other people play through them because it was just easier on my spirit to be a passive observer. I first heard of 7DTD through Markiplier like 6 years ago when the originals came out. Always liked the idea but never had a gaming PC. He released some new episodes and I ended up buying the PS4 version. I spent some good time on it but it still ended up feeling a little shallow. I progressed to watching Skippy0330 play the PS4 edition, and then made the mistake of watching him play A18 and seeing how much richer the game was (not that I blame TFP now that I understand the situation). I finally decided to pull the plug and buy the game again on my PC. I was resigned to spending another $30 on it but actually got it for like $9 through a Steam sale. Since then it's been the only game that's kept my attention and made me excited to play, discover and experiment. I really like everything about it (other than how dark it is early game lol). I really like the drive for efficiency, balancing resources, having a wide variety of choices for how I play the game, getting to try out my own ideas. I really like to overbuild bases to focus on surviving blood moons and I get enjoyment out of building them well enough to easily stay ahead of the zombies. That planning and engineering is fun and rewarding for me. But if I wanted to run from place to place playing nomad and surviving out of hastily fortified POIs, I could have that totally different game experience too. I find the game gratifying, rewarding, addicting to keep playing to get to that next goal post. I've gotten immense value out of the purchase price and I think I will for some time to come. I'm still playing A18 until I wear myself out on it enough to move on to A19 and I can't wait to see the difference in how the new build plays and what comes after. It's a little mind-blowing that the game has been in Alpha for so long but honestly it's changed so much and with the last couple of alphas the world has filled up so much that I can't wait to see how it develops. I've even been dreaming about the game a lot (heavy REM activity leads to more dreams for narcoleptic people) so it's obviously stuck with me and stayed in my mind a lot. Cheers on a well made game that's helped me get back into spending time enjoying my hobby as something that I choose to do for myself when I can't control so many other things going on,and makes me legitimately enjoy purposefully setting aside time to do that. | Posted: 14 Jul 2020 05:20 AM PDT Im on xbox Yesterday i moved bases. It took 3.5 in game days to move all resources and important stuff from the military base in the desert that i had spent months of work on to the cell tower in the forest biome. (Nazegane) i spent the next 3 days upgrading the cell tower to a somewhat defensible base. It was hour 17 and i still had so much to do. I was a flurry of activity, upgrading and crafting. Then at hour 22, i looked up at the sky and it was a normal night..like wtf? I asked myself. Looked at the day Day 69..oh..fuck me. At least i have another day. Just thought i would share.
