That Triple Pocket Mod has to go somewhere

That was a really fat boar

So I'm upgrading my base to steel, and I'm using half blocks on my second level so I can shoot though my wall. I haven't seen anyone else do this. Am I original or do other people do this too?

Here's a potential fix to significantly reduce the in-game micro-stuttering.

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 12:01 PM PST

As most of you probably experienced it already - the game has those lil micro stutters that are occuring from time to time whenever we're around a bunch of POIs, exploring some bigger one or just driving a vehicle. I'm talking about those strange slow-downs that even despite fps hovering at let's say way above 60 - suddenly for like a second or two the game's smoothness might feel like it's running more at like ~20-30fps even though the frame rate counter is still sitting at 60fps+. Personally i've been noticing this occuring quite frequently whenever i was passing by some decently-sized POI while triggering spawning of sleepers, fighting zeds while going/looting through some big one or just traveling for a while in a vehicle.

Recently i've came across this video about setting up an auto-cleaning Standby RAM memory task in windows Task Scheduler and how it apparently helps to get rid of stutters in a lot of games. Before trying it out in 7dtd i did a lil experiment by leaving Resource Monitor (from Task Manager -> Performance tab) in the background to keep an eye on the darker blue bar of 'Standby' memory while i'm playing. After about 20-30mins of exploring POIs, fightin' zeds and every few mins tabbing out too see 'Standby' bar growing more and more - at certain point i suddenly started noticing those micro stutters again and when i tabbed out - yep, the 'Standby' bar was filling the rest of the whole bar with the light blue 'Free' one being basically nonexistent ('In Use' + 'Standby' completely filled all 32gb of RAM). So i created that auto standby cleaning task by following the steps from the video above, set it up to run every 10 mins (instead of 5 like the person in that vid shows) and started playing the game again. Looks like this really did the trick, because after few hours long session i've realized that it got rid of like 80-90% stutters i've been experiencing before creating that cleaning task. There are still those barely noticeable infrequent micro-freeze 'ticks' that happen just once (single frame-like) every few/several minutes in some random moments, but the game overall runs a lot smoother, almost unnaturally smooth for 7dtd's standards it could be said.

I wrote "a potential fix" in the title, because i'm not 100% sure if everybody will get the same result as i just described the results i got on my system, but it's really worth a try as this also got rid for me of those annoying micro-stutters that were sometimes unexpectedly occuring when taking a melee swing at some zed.

If anybody is up to trying this out - before creating that cleaning task, try doing a similar test as i did - play the game normally & tab out every few mins to keep an eye on the RAM bar in Resource Monitor and pay attention to how the game will run for you during exploring/looting POIs once 'Standby' takes over all of the 'Free' memory - just to have a comparison (of before and after applying that "fix") to what extent it helps with 7dtd's smoothness on your system.

There's also this lil app that does the same auto standby cleaning thing.

Also, while i'm on the stutters topic. There's also this. I'm not sure how it affects 7dtd, because i've been playing with CFG disabled for 7dtd ever since i started playing A18, so i don't have any before/after comparisons, but apparently disabling CFG only for the game that exhibits some form of stuttering on your system - might help to some extent in reducing/getting rid of it. Judging by the comments in those archived threads - looks like it helped a lot for some people (no matter the GPU brand/manufacturer) in AAAs like Witcher 3, Hitman 2, No Man's Sky, Control, Far Cry 5, GTA V, etc & for some it also fixes those infamous stutters in Battlefield games when running in DirectX12 mode. And again, i'm just throwing this here about this "CFG off per exe" - if anybody plays some title where stutters occur & wants to try this out in it - disable CFG only for that game, never do it globally.

PS: In case if some people missed it/haven't heard about this - here's the thread i made a while back about using resolution scaling + image sharpening trick to gain +25% performance without almost any noticeable loss of graphics quality, works in any game.

PPS: In case some folks who (just as in the res scale + IS thread) want to bash me in the comments for dArInG oF eVeN sUgGeStInG dIsAbLinG cFg - yeah i know, disabling CFG globally is a very bad idea, that's why i advised to do it only per exe file/game and only for people who experience annoying stutter in some title (like AAAs) and would really love to try getting rid of it.

    Cheers :)

Is this good enough to run 7 days to die?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 06:57 AM PST

Finally got pc version and got a concrete question!

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 08:46 PM PST

I saw that in the PC versions, concrete was patched so that it just completely breaks, rather than degrading into progressively weaker blocks.

    Has this ever been explained?

Does toggling F for the laser sight mod do anything?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 04:28 PM PST

Can we just do away with toggling F for the laser sight so it doesn't interfere with the helmet light mod or the nvg?

    Which mods?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 09:18 AM PST

I finally reached a point where I'm comfortable enough with vanilla to start adding mods.

Currently I have NitroGen, and the newest Compopack.

Outside of those, I have almost zero familiarity with any other mod, except I keep hearing Ravenhurst (sp?).

I don't mind changing the dynamic somewhat or adding to crafting, but other than just fumbling through comments for mods, I figured I could try to start a discussion about what you all enjoy, etc.

How to get a mini bike?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 06:21 PM PST

I'm playing local, and I can't figure out how to get a minibike- I've read that there was a "minibikes for dumbshits" manual but I haven't found it, I read there was a "grease monkey" perk but I don't have that either. I'm on day 55.

    Screamers won't appear...

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 10:42 AM PST

Hello, I'm new to this game. I'm by day 36, been running 3 forges, 2 mixers, and 1 chemistry station almost nonstop, and not a single screamer has appeared. I'm playing in Adventurer(standard) difficulty. The wiki says they detect activity, but the game seems to change completely every Alpha... Not that I want a screamer to spawn but I was curious.

Pd. Any noob advice is welcome

    Renting a server?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 02:17 PM PST

So I was thinking of renting a server for a couple reasons. Partially im wondering if the game will run smoother even if I was playing single player since my computer wouldn't be processing as much and the server would be doing more. maybe I would be able to increase the zombie count and such? Also I might want to have a server I can play with people on too.

What are your guys thoughts on this and what would you consider the best places to rent a 7 days to die server from?

Tree houses/adding blocks to trees still possible?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 11:55 AM PST

I'm trying to build my first own base right now. Was thinking a little bit because I also wanted it to be cozy - at least a little bit. So I came up with the idea of a fortified tower with traps and stuff for blood night - but a balcony on the top of the tower which leads to to the trees around where platforms with the bed and stuff would be. But I just can't add blocks to trees like I saw it already in many videos. Did they remove that possebility completely in A18 or do I just miss something?

Also anyone else having a tree-house-thingie as base?

    Question

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 08:48 AM PST

I played this game like 2 years ago and just seen this discord, it used to be dead and people said the devs gave up, is this still true? Is this game actually gaining popularity?

A list of quest names and their building descriptions?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 01:14 AM PST

So you have quests in buildings like "building pyramid02" or "burnt business 04" or some other vague name. Just wondering if anyone has a list of quest locations and a description of the location? (Trying to force a "Bob's Boars" refresh.
