Remember: In a hurry, creating wooden spikes and upgrading them to Iron takes much less time than crafting the iron spikes and then placing them.

[A19] Starting in the snow biome is actually pretty sweet

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 08:28 AM PDT

So I started a new world yesterday and ended up in the snow biome. I used to hate this but it was actually pretty nice.

    • It seems like animals are more common. I killed like 6 deer/rabbits/pigs on the first day.
    • Birds nests are super easy to see. I used the meat and the eggs to make like 10+ bacon and eggs.
    • Dig quests are super easy. The snow digs up in 1-2 stone shovel hits so I just dig up all the snow on top and by the time I'm done digging up the snow the circle has a 3 block diameter.
    • Use said snow to make water.
    • Blueberries all over.
    • Lumberjack zombies are not that hard and give almost double xp of normal zombies.

The only downside is you need to find some good clothing by level 5. So make sure to prioritize that and possibly spend a point in that insulation skill if you need to.

I'm thinking this might be my favorite biome to start in now.

If whichever of you put those roving packs of zombie dogs in the game comes to the conclusion that your ingrown toenails and tooth rot aren't going away? That was me, cursing you with expletives and some sort of backwoods naughty magic.

    A19 Stealth nerf.

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 02:16 PM PDT

I decided to start a game to test out the new sneak attack buffs for blades and bows. At first it's pretty amazing. Playing on Warrior I can one shot basic zombies with a headshot using a primitive bow and stone arrows. It takes a few points in From the Shadows before you can get close enough to use blades. The padded armor with (advanced) muffled connectors bug still works if you can find them early game. The nerf comes in with the new POI's. I love the new POI's but if you play a stealth build they are obnoxious. In many of the new POI's all or most of the zombies are on a scripted attack. Meaning that when you enter a certain area all zombies in that area awaken and attack you regardless of you stealth skill or perception level. A18 had a few of these in certain places (like the stage in the end of the business strip) but they were rare and I could found it ok once I knew where most of them were. Now there are some POI's that I have to wait until daytime to do and just run through with blunderbuss and hunting knife.

Also, Hidden Strike got a small nerf in that it doesn't affect bows and blades. It only affects other weapons. This is ok since bows have an innate 4x sneak attack and blades have an innate 6x. However this means it will not scale with the progression of more difficult zombies and is really only useful for a stealth playstyle that doesn't include bows or blades. I suppose the silenced pistol is still an option for it.

Anyone else have this issue? FormatException: Empty input string.

I made a video testing the new guns of A19 by class. I test the DPS of each and how long each takes to deal 2000 damage. Let me know what you think!

Foreman's almanac Vol. 2 worth it?

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 06:38 PM PDT

From how I am reading the 2nd version of the fireman's almanac book, it says I can craft wood splitter mods, deal more damage to blocks but less damage to enemies. Does this mean if I read it I will permanently deal less damage to enemies or does this mean I deal less damage with a tool or weapon that has the mod on it?

    Fisticuffs Beer Build?

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 09:39 PM PDT

So, the new book takes away the beer buzz and makes it last twice a long. Beer gives you like a 300% dmg brawling buff. Then you can get Rock Hard Candy for an extra 50% dmg buff. Does that stack to 450% more dmg? Plus all the extra dmg if you spec into brawling/fisticuffs.

    Switching platforms

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 02:46 PM PDT

I love this game but haven't played it in a while and I'm thinking of buying this game for PC. Is this game different enough from the console version to justify buying it again?

Is A19 zombie pathfinding broken or working as intended?

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 08:34 PM PDT

Has anyone seen any weirdness with the pathfinding? I thought the zombies were supposed to take the path of least resistance.

I made a test base with a door on the inner wall facing east and the outer door facing west.

    7x10 (inside wall)

13x16 (outside wall) with a 1 block lip all the way around the outside

11 tall tower with a ladder up one side. I added a 3x3 platform at the top to give me somewhere to stand.

This made for 2 block wide walkways. I spawned in 2 sets of 25 zombies coming from different directions because I wanted to see which path they would take. This has been tested both with doors and without. More than half of them would rather beat down a wall than take a short walk around the corner through an open doorway and up a ladder to reach me.

Yes, I'm aware I'm in god mode. This was done in my cheat world to test different concepts before I try to build a horde base in my non-cheat world. I originally tried with wood blocks but none of them wanted to try the open doorway and I got tired of rebuilding the walls after every test.

This is more apparent with a smaller version of the base. There's clearly an open path just a few blocks away and only 1 managed to walk the few blocks to the other side.

If they're just going to stack on the walls trying to jenga up, I think the only viable base would be a steel cube lined with dart traps at the top that shoot down. I was hoping to build something a little nicer to look at, but the current pathing limits my options.

The first time I ever survived the night

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 06:57 AM PDT

Let me preface this by saying, I recently got a PC capable of running the game and my previous experience was on xbox.

So I've been really enjoying the game recently been doing a save with my mate, died multiple times usually because of my own stupidity.

Friend was working so decided to do a single player save. Things were going great, set up camp in a petrol garage and hid for the first night.

Day 2. Okay so I'm gonna go see the trader get a quest and really start to fuck shit up. 600m away not a problem. Running through the fire biome. Dont know if it has a name. Can see the trader. Inner monologue; this is going so well, let me just kill this flaming zombie with my spear and make the last run to the trader. Proceed to hit zombie, then I get hit from behind for massive damage. Me; Wtf Turn round to see a fucking bear has decided to sucker punch me from behind 2 hits later and I'm dead. I logged off after that.

Is crashing a large issue for others?

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 07:56 PM PDT

I'm beginning to crash so often that I can't do a t5 quest and I can't tell if it's my PC or the experiential build, never had a crash on a18
