A18 Strength based Melee Weapon Choice?

    Posted: 14 Oct 2019 10:20 PM PDT

I'm going to go deep into Strength, and I had some thoughts for weapon choices:

1: Pummeling Pete: I think it's an error, but it implies that normal attacks do extra damage % to stunned enemies. All of hte other perks have the wording that "power attacks do extra damage", but this one is different. typo/bug? Ether way, I'm not too keen because the tier 3 item needs a magazine to craft. Fast swing speed could be nice though.

2: Skull crusher: Sledges double as murder tools and terrain destruction tools, but they swing slow. is the AOE knockdown worth it? It could theoretically replace both a pick+axe for tearing into the walls of POIs.

3: Miner 69: You can actually get this perk at lower levels of strength that the other ones, meaning you get some damage boosts. The fire axe does good damage, has good reach, etc. Axe+pick+Knife gives you all the right tools for basically every job you care about.

I'm personally leaning towards miner 69. I'm comfortable with the fire axe and I like that you can also get gud at mining while you get gud at killing. Not that crafting is super useful in A18.

    Thoughts?

    A18 - level 40+ all safes/gun/secure chests are bugging

    Posted: 14 Oct 2019 10:01 PM PDT

I am on day 55 of a solo game with no deaths. And all safes and armored chests are only giving me lvl 1 loot. Crates and bags work as expected. This is driving me nuts.

Someone posted on the forums they were able to replicate based off of level using cheat mode. Level 40+ and all of the safes (wall safe, gun safe, armored chest) give level appropriate items, but nothing higher than brown.

Has anyone else experienced this, and maybe have a fix?

First Horde Night of A18 was utterly disappointing, lol...

    Posted: 14 Oct 2019 12:46 PM PDT

So we're gearing up for the first horde night, I have it set to every 7 days with a +4 day variance and no warning until evening, which are really neat options that I quite like and will be using going forward. Anyway, it's Day 11 now, which means Horde night is 100% tonight.

Friend #1 and I have taken over a mansion on a mountain just outside of Diersville. Friend #2 has just spawned in about 3.4km away, so she isn't gonna make it to us before nightfall without teleporting her, which she declined, opting instead to make her own way there and loot stuff en route. She's a 7DTD veteran so I'm not worried about her safety.

Around noon game-time, Friend #3 connects to the game for the first time ever. Friend #1 and #3 are in voice chat, so we start giving him the rundown of how the game works, basic controls, quick basic tutorial, the 7th day hordes, mentioning that he picked a bad time to join for the first time but we'll get him through it, "Crash course in horde nights time!" and so on. We're really emphasizing how brutal horde nights can be to mentally prepare him for the army of zombies that's gonna come tearing toward the base in about half an hour (real time).

We gear him up with what we've got on hand to spare, toss him an AK and some ammo, sun's starting to go down. We're still trying to drill it into his head that we're about to probably get a good part of the base broken into, we're probably gonna die, etc etc... he's getting spooped.

21:50: "Okay, here it comes... get ready..."

22:00 *horde night music, spoopy!* We brace for the horde. The first one comes into audible range, runs to the front door, starts pounding it... I've placed a junk turret in the main hall, Friend #1 and #3 have guns trained on the door. Friend #2 is on some roof 2.3km away, she's fine.

"Gonna open the door, get ready to mow him down." Open door, he runs in, gets mowed down, close door to wait for next zombies. Next zombies never come. They ALL went to Friend #2 super far away except for one. Way to make an impression on a new player, game. Thumbs up.

TL;DR - Brand new player joins our game on a horde night, we spend half an hour telling him how brutal horde nights can be, horde night comes, our 3-person group gets ONE zombie while our solo friend a few km away gets all the rest of them.

    Question about a certain setting

    Posted: 14 Oct 2019 07:12 PM PDT

I just started playing on PC (have been playing on console on and off from the beginning) and the server I was on seemed to be easier settings. When I died and respawned my health would be at 100 stamina at 30 and I would be starving like I was before I died. What setting controls that? On console when we died starving and stuff like that went away when you respawned.

What are your guys favorite builds for Alpha 18 so far?

    Posted: 14 Oct 2019 06:39 PM PDT

I myself haven't gotten too far into days yet but am enjoying the bow/knife build with hunting rifle with a 2x scope i've found. I know sneaking can be a little slow, but once you get better bows and find a hunting rifle, for me at least i've enjoyed it.

What are some of your strategies for building a character with the new skills in A18?

Food Safety - removes food poisoning from cooked foods

    Posted: 14 Oct 2019 01:53 AM PDT

This mod removes food poisoning from cooked foods and dysentery from bottled water. You can grab the mod over at Nexus. Instructions are there.

I must say, learning to mod via xpath given the poor state of documentation was a pain in the ass. I should probably write a guide on this...
