[Serious] Those who've explored abandoned buildings that went seriously wrong, what happened?

    Posted: 23 Oct 2019 09:57 AM PDT

All i can think about is how much loot and electric parts ect. I can get from this with a 600 purple wrench

We need logic gates for electricity.

    Posted: 23 Oct 2019 12:43 PM PDT

When electrical capabilities were added in A16 it changed the entire landscape of late game. After that point having a nice strong base with lights and automated defenses became the endgame goal of many. I've both seen and created some interesting designs using the electrical mechanics we now have, but despite all the creativity, it still feels very limited at times.

The biggest issue as of now is the connection system. You can only create serial connections. This poses a problem for people looking to build more intricate systems. Basically, a power consuming item, i.e lights, turrets, etc can only be wired to receive power from one source.

The easiest solution for this that would allow systems to be powered from multiple triggers or power sources would be logic gates. Nothing fancy. Just basic And, Or, and Nor gates would be sufficient. This could all be incorporated into a single configurable block. You could even make this functionality part of the relays, or create a special logic relay.

A few examples of how this could be useful:

The new powered doors with a motion sensor on either side to allow motion activation both coming and going instead of only one way.

Multiple light switches in a room to turn on lights from whichever door you enter from.

Robust defense options including a combination of trip wires, pressure plates, and motion sensors in a single system.

Redundant powering options for electrical fences, turrets, or pretty much anything at risk of being destroyed and removing power from anything downstream.

I believe that adding this option to the game could revive a great concept that has stagnated a bit in the last 2 alphas.

A18 made me fall in love with this game

    Posted: 22 Oct 2019 11:56 PM PDT

I almost didn't post this because I'm just a lurker -- but I want to say thank you. I didn't love this game before A18; I actually hated it. Now, however, I'm loving the heck out of it. I like the new weapons, I love the redesigned perks, I adore the creative new POI's, I'm tickled pink by the performance increases, you get the idea.

This game is a blast for me now, so thank you!

Plotting XP for A17 vs A18

    Posted: 23 Oct 2019 07:21 AM PDT

I plotted some graphs showing the XP curve from A17 vs the new one from A18.

Here is the first. A17 is blue, A18 is red. On this scale we go up to level 300 (x axis) and up to 1 million xp per level (y axis). As you can see, it takes much longer for levelling to slow down in A17. A18's XP requirements really start to ramp up by level 60. But this graph doesn't show just how insane A18's curve is; for that, we need to go bigger.

Here is the second graph. A17 is blue, A18 is red. On this scale we go up to level 300 (x axis) and up to 25 million xp per level (y axis). Safe to say you're never maxing out in A18.

I'm sure TFP have their reasons for doing this but this isn't really how I want to play the game personally. What do you think?

EDIT: thanks to u/SkyKiwi we have a nicer graph. Adjust the slider in the top left to see XP cost per level. Blue is A17, Red is A18.

    Additional options for zombie spawning

    Posted: 23 Oct 2019 05:45 PM PDT

I feel that there needs to be more than just the two options aside from just NO zombies on the map or always respawning zombies.

I feel there should be several options for this game taken from other sources.

    1. Once you clear an area and "secure" it. Zombies shouldn't spawn in that area.
    2. Hordes / clusters / Herds...whatever you'd like to call them should be able to move through an area and demolish certain above ground blocks, mainly just wood, but possibly other types of blocks as well.
    3. With the above said, maybe if the player / players aren't in a certain area, they could just "repopulate" that area.
    4. If a player dies, it spawns a zombie within a certain area of said players death.

I know there are other things too, but I'm drawing a blank at this point. What are some of y'alls opinions about this?

    Zombies spawning in base

    Posted: 23 Oct 2019 10:22 PM PDT

Is the land claim block supposed to stop Zombies spawning in the area ? I'm getting them appearing in my base, which is a small purpose built bunker within the LCB area and it is still secure so they didn't break in, they spawned there.

I figure either the LCB doesn't stop them spawning after all, which is a problem ...

Or maybe there's a spawn point on the ground under the base at a point that's half a block or so so above the ground - the ground is untouched so they're spawning, but there isn't room on the ground so they appear on top of whatever's in the way - i.e. my floor :-p

I'm going to dig out under the base and make a proper concrete lined basement that goes well under the original ground level and see if that helps, any ideas while I'm doing that ?

Alpha 18 b152 near-instant block upgrade bug. Very useful until they fix it :P

    Posted: 23 Oct 2019 04:07 PM PDT

So, Alpha 18 b152 - not sure how long this has been a thing as I just discovered it last night, but if you hold right-click and mash Alt on a block you're upgrading, it significantly decreases the time it takes to build/upgrade blocks to nearly-instant. It seems like pressing Alt basically resets the cooldown to being able to right-click again, so you can upgrade a wood frame to its max tier in almost no time at all. Kinda neat, not sure how I stumbled into it, but it made building our horde defense wall take a lot less time...

Kind of curious if that works in reverse, when destroying blocks... will have to check that next time I play.

Double Barrel with Barrel Extender :(

    Posted: 23 Oct 2019 02:58 PM PDT

If you put a barrel extender on the double barrel the model doesn't change and neither does the stats. I hope this is a oversight.

MeanCloud's Mining modlet (A18) with copper, zinc, and excavators

    Posted: 23 Oct 2019 04:57 PM PDT

    Did you know...(landmines!)

    Posted: 23 Oct 2019 08:40 PM PDT

With Alpha 18, the transition areas between biomes have that wasted-lands look -- iron piles, cinder blocks and piles, the occasional small brick structure -- and landmines too! This is verified with my very own two (2) eyes -- yes, both of them -- in a transition area between a pine forest biome and desert biome. I did not test the hubcap mine by stepping on it but shot it to pieces instead.

Edit: This in not about the wasteland directly but about the area between biomes, the transition area -- they have become mini-wastelands that look somewhat like the other biomes and can have landmines.

Watch where you step when transitioning biomes!

    Significant quest bug

    Posted: 23 Oct 2019 11:46 AM PDT

I was doing a Tier V fetch and clear in an tall office building last night. I followed the fetch pointer and found the supplies about half way up. Got to the roof and as I was finishing clearing, it suddenly flipped to "activate rally point". This took two game days to finish. Very annoying. Anyone else see this before?

    In ground garden

    Posted: 23 Oct 2019 08:24 PM PDT

After lots of time digging a huge area, it seems only certain things will grow under ground with a window ceiling. Mainly mushrooms. Anyone else try this idea yet in A18?

    Question about mods in A18

    Posted: 23 Oct 2019 04:37 PM PDT

Was only curious about hud mods. I went and looked on nexus mods and notice they dont support 7dtd mods anymore(there is only 2 mods on there currently) But my question would be where do you guys get your mods from now? As well, do you think i could apply a UI mod on to a current save or must i start a new save

    I need some help/advice.

    Posted: 23 Oct 2019 08:09 PM PDT

I made this account solely to post this

My game will crash randomly on both single and multiplayer about 30-45 minutes into the game, it will then decrease to around 5-10 minutes then in a few seconds. Is there anything I can do to fix this? This is only happening with alpha 17 and 18.

I have 8 gigabytes of ram and i have a AMD Radeon (TM) R9 380 Series driver. I am on windows 7 (64 bit). I already updated my driver software and windows said it was up-to date

Does anyone have a reason or solution to this problem?
