Exploration should be rewarded with XP

    Posted: 08 Nov 2019 03:56 AM PST

I play by myself. I like exploring the map, as much as doing missions. Mapping out the biomes, finding myself in a forest then in ruined city, looking for where the traders are - I'm playing in West Wiking Territory, and so far I've only found 2 of them - is a peaceful, fine activity for me. However, just as I was cycling through the map this morning I noticed that I was getting zero XP doing all this travelling. It's the only activity that earns you nothing, game-mechanic-wise. To put it in a meta game perspective, it's a lot of time "wasted", virtual total inneficiency.

To this effect, you'd be rewarded some relative XP to your current level at every 300m you travel in unmapped territory. Or something like that, I'm not very good with the fine details of my suggestions.

So, I think this suggestion would be good for loners like me that can't help themselves in discovering the sprawling world outside their safehouses. To me, the game is as much an exploration game as it is a crafting one.

How can I improve my base defense other than just surrounding it with spikes, having a jump to get into the house, cobblestone first floor, and ring around and arrow slits yo shoot zombies and stop spider zombies, can I do more early game?

Saw this quote today and got disappointed...

    Posted: 08 Nov 2019 12:14 AM PST

Quote from MadMole on 9-9-2019 in the alpha 18 Dev diary ( https://7daystodie.com/forums/showthread.php?111778-Alpha-18-Dev-Diary!!/page1337&p=1012711#post1012711 ):
If I could do it all over again I'd have thrown out the diggable terrain. Alpha 1 could have had static Unity terrain, a simple water plane, ran 30% better, used way less ram, console wouldn't have been so beat down, allowed faster vehicles, looked as good as 18's terrain does now, (Minus the Justin talent) and we wouldn't have wasted energy on mining, cave systems, multiple versions of trees, etc. Mining could have been mining POIs with respawning nuggets like rust/skyrim/subnautica with a nice model. We'd anger 10% and gain 200% new players that don't give a ♥♥♥♥ about deformable terrain and buggy water.

At some point we might release a static terrain option for 7 days just to see the performance gains. IMO most people would run it for the performance gains and better pvp, none of this wimpy underground base business, fight like a man like in TWD. You don't see those guys living in caves/mines.

What may have made us great has also slowed us down and kept us indy looking/performing. I think mining is ok but its not part of the secret sauce, we'd still have mining it just wouldn't be ugly 3d mining. At this point we'd kind of solved it mostly but it could have saved us a lot of time and headaches, allowing us to focus on cool stuff like we are able to now.
Trying to host a dedicated server, but I'm new to the settings to change

    Posted: 08 Nov 2019 07:17 PM PST

We want to create a random gen, for this section.. do I ahve it correct? It just never lets us load into the server, and I'm guessing it has something to do with this, because navezgane works.

<!-- GAMEPLAY --> <!-- World --> <property name="GameWorld" value="RWG"/> <!-- RWG (see WorldGenSeed and WorldGenSize options below) or any already existing world name in the Worlds folder (currently shipping with Navezgane) --> <property name="WorldGenSeed" value="dfsg"/> <!-- If RWG this is the seed for the generation of the new world. If a world with the resulting name already exists it will simply load it --> <property name="WorldGenSize" value="4096"/> <!-- If RWG this controls the width and height of the created world. It is also used in combination with WorldGenSeed to create the internal RWG seed thus also creating a unique map name even if using the same WorldGenSeed. Has to be between 2048 and 16384, though large map sizes will take long to generate / download / load --> <property name="GameName" value="The boys are back"/> <!-- Whatever you want the game name to be. This affects the save game name as well as the seed used when placing decoration (trees etc) in the world. It does not control the generic layout of the world if creating an RWG world --> <property name="GameMode" value="GameModeSurvival"/> <!-- GameModeSurvival -->

    Stone Spears Feel Bad

    Posted: 08 Nov 2019 05:14 PM PST

    Does anyone else get this?

I guess I get it. It's an easy-to-make early game weapon that's pretty strong. But there are two major problems I have with them:

    1. They don't stack. It's really frustrating putting 3 spears into a zed, retrieve all of them, and then only one is left in your hotbar. If you've got more zeds to deal with, especially in a tight spot, opening the inventory and manually moving the spears back into the hotbar can take up too much time and get you killed.
    2. The throw is weak. I suspect they made the throw weak so as to keep it from being massively overpowered for such an easy item. However, it just feels so bad the way it works. The first time I charged it up, I expected it to actually go towards my reticle. However, it looked like it just exploded out of my chest and cartoonishly fell to the ground. I get not wanting it to go far, but not even being able to launch it higher than chest level without aiming at the sun does not feel good.

I hope the team decides to put some effort into making the spear throw just feel better. Even if they nerfed it to take 6+ to kill a zed, I'd be fine with that, if I could just have stacking and a throw that makes more sense/feels better.

    The Junk Turret is awesome

    Posted: 08 Nov 2019 08:40 AM PST

Had my first horde night on A18. Had my supplies at the ready and picked an existing POI to make my stand as normal. Obtained two Junk Turret drops and hadn't used it up until this point.

I was impressed! It even shot at zombies through a window they were trying to bust out and descend down on me. Moving forward going to bring one of these along everywhere. Bet this will be very handy for dig missions, or just hole mining in general, putting one up top so at least you have a warning something is coming, instead of a zombie coming out of no where and having to change your underwear.

    Preferred Perks in A18

    Posted: 08 Nov 2019 10:47 AM PST

Hey all; just curious what everyone's preferred perks are going into A18.

Anyone specializing into light armor and stealth; if so is it worth it over heavy and what perks did you go with? Any must have perks that people would suggest for any general build?
