Would anybody be interested in a faction based RPPVP server?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 08:01 PM PDT

I've been looking through the server list and haven't seen much in the way of an RP faction server. I'm considering buying a dedicated server to host if people are interested. Sort of a team based zombie apocalypse with a mix of DnD. I think there's lots of potential for player created stories via some on the fly dungeon mastering and imagination. Some quick server details/rules would be

    1. 3 Factions to start with. Bandits, some form of military, and survivors. Bandits would be KoS by the other 2 factions and vice versa but I'd love to have events like hostage scenarios where bandits are hunkered down in an outpost and sending in some military to rescue the survivors.
    2. Each faction has a HQ that is open to all members of their faction and will usually be off limits for raiding... Usually.
    3. xp and loot bonus set to normal and the difficulty set to either survivalist or insane to encourage working together. I find people can solo too easily most of the time and it really discourages communities to socialize.
    4. Military and bandits must have discord to organize events and missions. Survivors are kind of where you start and you're just kind of there as filler I guess or while you're trying to decide which faction you'd like to be in if you want to be in one at all.
    5. For the most part you could play as you normally would but your base building/base raiding will be restricted to prevent chaos. Things like each faction is restricted to base building in a specific biome and can't base raid unless it's authorized by an admin, these raids would be more theatrical and fun than a straight blow-up-everything type raid and would usually be held at an outpost rather than a faction HQ. Then when an admin/dm is online and there's enough people willing they can do some custom missions/events.
    6. Maybe faction specific dyes like blue for military and red for bandits.
    7. also server hosted in NA but as long as you can speak English I think it could be pretty fun

Thoughts? If you're interested post here and/or PM me.

    EDIT

I think maybe there's too much emphasis on the PVP part, I'd like some tension and loss along the way or the game stagnates but I don't want it to be an endless cycle of each faction fighting constantly.

Also discord link for those who may be interested. https://discord.gg/v764P9K

A chimney with a ladder seems to be one the best horde bases I've (accidentally) made that doesn't rely on explosives or traps

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 03:05 PM PDT

We were using a PoI roof to fight zombies, so I made a 20 or so block high concrete tube / chimney up to the roof. Just a normal ladder shaft with a door leading in to it, only one block of space in it for the ladder and room to climb etc.

The zombies broke the door open and all funnel up the ladder, so you can just stand there on top and shoot down with an m60 and take them out with ease as they climb up.

    Pros

    • Extremely easy to set up
    • Zombies will go for it over everything else for some reason, they REALLY like climbing the ladder and don't punch it even when there are like 100 zombies waiting in line for their turn in the kill tunnel
    • Ridiculously easy kill tunnel because their heads are on top as they climb up obviously. I just stand there with my m60 and burst fire and mow them all down by the dozens

    Cons

    • If the ladder broke somehow it would FUBAR your entire kill tunnel
    • Can't use explosives without breaking your ladder / blocks
    • Not much room for traps in my initial, terribly thought out design that wasn't intended to be an efficient kill tunnel
    • Uses a ton of ammo because no traps or explosives

I bet if you were smart about it, you could make it really efficient like using bars instead of concrete walls so turrets could shoot through as they climbed up to you. You could probably take out the "front" wall block every few blocks to have a fan blade trap cut them? Maybe some electric traps too?

For the ladder breaking thing, you could probably have 2 or 3 of the chimney set up because they are so simple and basically just use concrete. Put a hatch at top, and leave it closed, and only open it if the ladder breaks in your main chimney. They should path to the one with the open hatch first, and only go for the closed hatch ones if the first ladder breaks

    TLDR;

It's a chimney with a ladder in it, nothing fancy. It's literally just 1 concrete block back wall with a ladder on it, 1 block left wall, 1 block right wall, door in front with blocks above the door and you just take it up as high as you want. Make it as high as you want, but if you go too high it might make the zombie pathfinding mess up. Mine is only like 10-20 blocks high.

This might be obvious to others, but after all the kiillboxes and elaborates mazes I've done and seen, I was surprised at how easily this shut the zombies down even with it being so inefficiently designed.

If you get smart about it and add traps and turrets, I bet they would tear the zombies up pretty hard. Even irradiated weren't a problem for me just firing an M60 down into their heads, the bullet penetration perk would be amazing too because basically the entire chimney is filled with a solid mass of zombies trying to climb up the ladder in a stream

    Infinite Brass/Lead [Exploit/Bug]

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 03:42 PM PDT

So I want to start off by saying that I don't necessarily endorse the use of exploits, but as someone who is working at a grocery store for 40-60 hours a week in the midst of the pandemic I don't have a lot of time to spend farming for door knobs. So if you don't like exploits that's fine, but this is not the post for you. That being said let me jump into that exploit. When you start a quest, the POI's will regenerate everything. If you exit the game in the middle of a quest there is a bug where the quest resets and you have to reactivate the marker. This means you can harvest and re-spawn all of the loot in a building as many times as you want using a single quest, so long as you don't advance the quest stage. This is especially exploitable when it comes to the tier 5 apartment building because of the large number of cars that spawn at the entry point. The cars will drop brass radiators which can be smelted for brass (duh) and car batteries which can be smelted for lead or sold to traders for dukes which can then be smelted for more brass. Exit the game when you finish scrapping the cars and re-activate the quest and repeat.

    TLDR;

    1. Activate apartment quest
    2. Scrap all cars in the garage for radiators and batteries
    3. Exit game
    4. Repeat

PS: If the Fun Pimps are reading this, please dont make changes to the apartment building to fix this. The apartments are perfect as is. Just fix the quest bug. ;D

A way to silence the auger.

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 04:26 AM PDT

So I was mining for a project.. and discovered that while using the Auger, if you press R (reload) to reload it with gas, but you dont stop mining you get a completely silent Auger.

Basically while you are mining with it, press R but dont stop using it.. it should be completely silent, and only you will hear the rocks/items you pick up.

Any idea what to do about this crash?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 03:47 PM PDT

Been unable to get past the "Building environment" screen, and I figured I might as well ask here.

    Output log: https://pastebin.com/DPLS1R3Y

Edit: So far, crashes at said loading text whenever I try to make a new game, continue a game, and enter world edit. I can only join into servers/friends' games. Tried reinstalling, using OpenGL, turning off EAC, changing video setting, running both steam and the launcher from the folder as admin, and verifying files, but nothing is working. I'm on 64-bit Windows 8 with much better spec than needed - I've been able to run the game perfectly fine playing on a friend's server, so it seems to be on my end of things.

    T5 quest completion?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 06:55 PM PDT

My wife and I were just doing a T5 clear quest at the Shotgun Mesiah and were not able to finish it because there were 2 zombies that we couldn't find. There were red dots on our screen that we tracked to but could not find anything. One was definitely a bird and the other was in the center of the building. Are these quests bugged out?

    Preformance

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 05:18 PM PDT

I am mostly a console player but I have the game on pc (not the best computer) just so I can check the state of the game. I tried playing it the other day but there was way too much lag. I tried turning down some settings but then the quality was so bad It was almost unplayable. Is there anyway I can play with minimal lag without having to sacrifice too much quality?

New player, what type of map/settings should I use?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 11:06 AM PDT

I'm a new PC player and I'm just learning to play. I'm looking for suggestions for what map to use (Navezgane or a random gen?), size, different settings like loot and respawns etc. I'm hoping to play on this one map for a while, if that matters. I won't be doing PvP, but I might have a friend or two join me. Any suggestions?

To use a persistent server or not?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 05:41 AM PDT

So 3 of us just recently started playing 7 days to die yesterday and had a blast. Before we got much further into it we wanted to decide if we want to use a persistent server or not but I'm interested in how that affects the game. We'd mostly play together, but what happens to the world if say 1 of us logs in when they are bored, and hangs out in the base we were all building, does that get attacked?

Can anyone with experience here explain the fundamental differences in gameplay that having a persistent server we log into might have as opposed to one of us just hosting and all logging in and out at the same time? Thanks!
